Coping with Chemotherapy
Cancer patients could be treated with any of the more than 100 chemotherapy drugs that work differently and whose effect on the body is different. The October issue of the “Mayo Clinic Health Letter” contains an eight-page special report on how to get the most benefit from chemotherapy and ways to manage side effects. Among the suggestions are the following:
Eating well: nausea and vomiting are common side effects of some chemotherapy, but not all. Also, the person may lose your appetite and reduce weight without wanting to. It is important to work with the medical team to manage these side effects and eating balanced meals when hungry.
There are medicines that prevent or treat nausea. Furthermore, studies have shown that acupuncture may also be an effective treatment for nausea. Among other tactics would be useful to take ginger pills, drinking ginger ale (ginger ale) or engage in relaxation techniques like meditation, deep breathing or hypnosis. (more…)
