How to Prevent Skin Cancer

skincancerThe most important way to reduce the risk of developing skin cancer melanoma is to avoid unprotected exposure to sunlight and other ultraviolet light sources. The easiest way to avoid excessive exposure to ultraviolet light is to stay away from the sun and the shade whenever possible.

This is particularly important at midday when UV light is more intense.

* Protect yourself with clothing, including a shirt and a brimmed hat. In general, tightly woven fabrics offer the best protection against the sun. Sunglasses that offer good coverage, with a percentage of UV absorption of 99% to 100%, optimally protect the eyes and the skin area around them. (more…)

Prevent Skin Cancer: Melanoma of the skin

In Chile between 1998 and 2008, around 200 people died from this disease, two times more than in the previous decade, according to the latest report from the National Cancer Corporation (CONAC). According to the World Health Organization, each year some 48,000 people die because of melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer. However, this could significantly decrease if taken appropriate precautionary measures.
