Pelvic floor exercises are an important form of exercise for all women, but especially for pregnant women. Previously it was believed that strong pelvic floor muscles did birth harder and longer, but now we know that strong pelvic floor muscles on the contrary can make birth less, prevents damage during birth, preventing urine leakage both during pregnancy and after birth.

Pelvic floor muscles are the muscles that surround the urethra, vagina and rectum. Muscles are internal and can not be seen. They can also be difficult to isolate, and the pelvic floor exercises requires a bit of exercise. The training involves pulling the muscles together and pull them up in the abdomen as hard as you can, hold for 5-10 seconds and then release the muscles calm down. Exercise daily and do as many repetitions as you want.

Knowledge

Knowledge is power. The same is true when it comes to birth. The more we know about what awaits, the easier it is to prepare both mentally and physically. Many women – and men – feel they have much left to attend childbirth preparation course. There, you learn, among other things, about the birth process, what is happening in the delivery room, what choices you have when it comes to federal positions and pain relievers, how maternity care is added up, breastfeeding, etc.

It is impossible to know exactly how your birth will be run, but it can give much confidence to know what will happen in the hospital and what help you can get.

However – be sure to steer clear of horror stories on the Internet.

Massage

Massage of the area that hurts, it will dampen pain signals sent to the brain, according to a U.S. study. It may thus be helpful in getting the massage of your partner during birth. Massage has a relaxing effect and can calm the woman down – which can help the experience of pain.

Lots of meat between

Daily massage of the perineum (the area between the vagina and anus) can prevent the tears during childbirth. Sweet almond oil is recommended for this use, but probably it is the masses of the area that is decisive. Five to ten minute daily massages from about four weeks before birth is recommended by academic and research midwife at the hospital, Miriam Lukasse.
