Symptoms of Liver Cirrhosis
The liver has the quality of no abnormalities in its operation until it has hit 75%. However, the onset of cirrhosis can manifest vomiting blood and black stools. As in other diseases of this organ, the skin turns yellow (jaundice), and this color also appears in the sclera (white of the eye), redness of the palms of the hands and appear as small spots on the spider chest, the nails are very white and there is growth of mammary glands in men, as well as edema or fluid retention in feet and waist. The breath becomes very strong (characteristic of those with serious liver disorders), the pubic and axillary hair falls out and the size of the genital organs decreases.
Then there will be accumulation of fluid in the abdomen (ascites), and when it reaches the final stages of the disease is not rare for mental disorders arising from the frank liver failure (hepatic encephalopathy).
Cirrhosis can be detected when the doctor is in the lab large numbers of hepatic transaminases (liver enzymes that normally occurs), although a liver biopsy (analysis of part of the liver itself) is more accurate to diagnose the disease.
Beware of…
The main recommendation to prevent cirrhosis is to avoid alcohol and, if it does not exceed the amount, take it as simple advice, but drinking when consuming food aid.
Avoid eating too many drugs, and try to stick only to the dose your doctor point, especially if you regularly drink alcohol.
For the patient’s recovery is essential to follow the model proposed by the physician diet, which most likely include foods high in soluble vitamins (like B and C), since these are rapidly eliminated in patients with cirrhosis. If fluid retention (edema or ascites) is necessary to restrict sodium and fluid intake.
It is very difficult to recognize if the liver is the most important organ in our body, but is a reality that performs vital functions, which is why we must learn to care.
