Consumption of alcohol increases risk of prostate cancer

Excessive alcohol consumption has been linked to diseases such as breast and gastric cancer, however a new study opens up other possibilities and it relates to prostate cancer.

It is believed that alcohol accelerates the metabolism of cancer cells and this causes it to develop a more aggressive cancer, experts say.

The new study was conducted by doctors in Holland Center and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research recently published in the journal Cancer. It pointed out that excessive consumption of alcohol, especially beer, cause it to quickly develop a highly aggressive prostate cancer, whose chances of survival are less than 50%. (more…)

Announce progress against metastasis in breast cancer

SRC protein attack has proved effective in slowing the process of metastasis in breast cancer and other tumor cells lodge in vital organs like the lungs or brain, and can spread the disease, said researcher Joan Massagué, Deputy Director of the Institute of Biomedical Research.

52 700 British women and men aged 20-89 years participated in the study and were followed up through the 90s. They were divided into four groups:

- Carnivores
- Fisketere
- Vegetarians
- Vegans

Treatments of Breast Cancer

There are several types of treatment for use in breast cancer. The therapy is applied depends on many factors, which include the stage or stage where the tumor is, whether or not metastasis, the size of the cancer and how cancer cells are. With the classification made by doctors are set to tumor size, lymph node involvement and the degree of metastasis or spread to other organs, if any. The most used is the TNM system created by the American Joint Committee on Cancer. Each letter refers to a characteristic, which is defined by a number:

Mechanism and Types of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is abnormal and disordered growth of cells in this tissue. The breast consists of a series of mammary glands that produce milk after birth, and which are called lobes and lobules.

The lobes are connected by pipes, ducts, which are the leading milk to the nipple during lactation, to feed the baby.
The glands (or lobes) and the ducts are embedded in adipose tissue and connective tissue, which, together with the lymphoid tissue, forming the breast.
