Constipation – What are Its Causes?

The term constipation rather than a disease itself refers to the assessment of each individual about his bowel habits. Given the wide margin of normal bowel habits, it is very difficult to accurately define constipation. In practice a more objective criterion used as the frequency of defecation, constipation considering the individual who performs fewer than three bowel movements per week.

However, this criterion is not sufficient by itself, because many patients with constipation referred to a normal rate but with other subjective complaints such as excessive straining, very hard stools or a feeling of incomplete evacuation.

What are its causes?

The most common cause of constipation is now what is called simple chronic constipation and is mainly due to dietary factors, and its main cause is a lack of fiber in the diet. Sometimes constipation is associated with various illnesses suffered by the individual and is a common symptom in patients with diabetes and thyroid disease.
