The thyroid gland

The thyroid participates in the production of hormones, primarily thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones are primarily responsible for regulating the body’s basal metabolic rate, affecting growth and the degree of functionality of other body systems. The thyroid also synthesized the hormone calcitonin, which plays an important role in calcium homeostasis.

Consumption of alcohol increases risk of prostate cancer

Excessive alcohol consumption has been linked to diseases such as breast and gastric cancer, however a new study opens up other possibilities and it relates to prostate cancer.

It is believed that alcohol accelerates the metabolism of cancer cells and this causes it to develop a more aggressive cancer, experts say.

The new study was conducted by doctors in Holland Center and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research recently published in the journal Cancer. It pointed out that excessive consumption of alcohol, especially beer, cause it to quickly develop a highly aggressive prostate cancer, whose chances of survival are less than 50%. (more…)

Painkillers may reduce effectiveness of vaccines in children
