Some of these chemicals are used to combat signs of aging.

The cosmetics are composed of a wide range of active and within these vitamins play a very important place. The intake of vitamins through food is absolutely essential for many vital body reactions, explains Monica Llamas, scientific director of the Laboratories Skinceuticals. “However,” continues – when ingested have a general distribution for all organs, and functions that develop in them need not necessarily be the same as those which are topically. In fact, vitamins reach the skin in last place, so it is not known whether it has received significant amounts of the same. Thus, when applied topically dissemination is not general but specific, and remain, forming a reservoir in the skin and acting on that level.

The vitamins most commonly used in cosmetics are the A, B5, C and E. However, due to its instability, are generally not applied as such in cosmetic formulations, but have been using these precursors. “The precursors are molecules that after a series of reactions triggered in the body itself becomes the vitamin itself, qualifies Manuel Lopez, pharmacist and director of communications for Pierre Fabre. “The use of these precursors does not detract in any way the effectiveness of vitamins on the skin. Instead, they get the same activity but with better tolerability, as, for example, vitamin A, applied as such in the dermis, annoy and hinder their penetration, “concluded the expert.

Vitamin A
Retinoic acid or vitamin A, as such, is not used in cosmetics, only medicines. In the creams are used precursors retinol and retinaldehyde, better tolerated and well absorbed topically. “Within the epidermal cell pass retinoic acid and active,” Lopez qualifies.

“The sample retinol level actions skin regeneration and increases collagen synthesis and, above, is of great interest to counteract effects of photoaging,” adds the responsibility for Skinceuticals.

Vitamin C
Stabilize pure and can be applied directly to the skin. Protects it from damage caused by UVA and UVB radiation, which means that the skin is protected against sunburn. It also promotes collagen synthesis and skin elasticity and inhibits tyrosinase reducing skin pigmentation

Vitamin B5
The precursor of vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid in the cream is applied panthenol. According to Lopez, “although there are topical products that incorporate it, is common in capillary articles because Panthenol is a natural component of hair.” It has a moisturizing effect, moisturizing properties, an affinity for keratin and promotes tissue repair.

Vitamin E
It prevents sunburn and helps combat the harmful effects of solar radiation. It also facilitates the recovery of scars and acts against free radicals. “There is much scientific evidence of the synergistic effect between vitamin E and C, through which shows the decrease in sunburn cells and thymine dimers are a type of alterations in the genetic material of cells,” says Llamas.

Its precursor is the pretocoferil, although you can also use the active form of vitamin E, tocopherol, but is less stable.
